life lessons....

of a 15 year old son.... back in march my eldest got an upgraded cell phone for his birthday.  now, i didn't fall for the "but mom, i *have* to have one line, but, he lives 3000 miles away, and it's the easiest way for us to communicate; so i bought him the phone. not the fanciest, but it's a nice one. it's able to play music, get downloads, etc...... he told me kids back in MI didn't really txt, so we opted out of a texting package, but i did make it very clear that he was not to be doing all this download stuff, as it costs extra, he doesn't need it, and that i'm not willing to pay for it.... "okay, mom, that's cool"......

fast forward...... april's bill comes and its over $55.00 more that usual..... so, i get on line, look up his account, and there are a bazillion txt messages [going out & in], and some downloads.  so i txt him and say, "i love you, but if you know what's good for you, you'll call me like, NOW".  funny, i got a phone call within an hour.  we have a long conversation, he says he didn't realize it would cost that much to txt, but it was his way to communicate with his best friend while he was on a school band trip to hawaii..... and that he *forgot* about the download thing...... soooo, i work things out, remind him no more downloads, and i agreed to add txting to his phone package..... everything's cool, until june.......

well, being a teenage, at times lazy 15 year old, he didn't feel like bringing HIS gym lock to school, so he used a friend's locker, they forgot to lock it, and his cell phone & ipod were stolen.  not sure why he needed his ipod at school, but that's a whole other issue...... i had had the foresight to get insurance on his phone, so it wasn't too hard to get a new one sent, though it did cost me a $50.00 deductible.  but, he got a new phone, and everything's cool......right? well, lets fast forward again.......

get my monthly online bill from verizon this morning.... what a shock to see that his cell phone bill is yet another $55.00 over....... hmmmmm, wonder why??? yep, downloads and megabyte usage..... so of course i gave him a call, forgot he doesn't have his cell phone cuz he's at a fine arts camp, but left a message.  then the responsible parent that i am, called dad, and had a conversation with him about it...... looks like this boy will learn a lesson, again; hopefully more than the last time...... dad's going to take the phone, and JS IS goign to pay me back...... guess he better figure out how to earn some cashola before he comes out to visit.......

anyway, enough babbling for now..... got a list going for the day and should get started..... maybe i'll be back......
